Mystic Blue in cooperation with Cafe-bar Boehme del Mar sent a message to the local government of Syros, and of the Cyclades in general, by initiating and encouraging the locals to start collecting plastic bottles for recycling.
Every year one billion plastic drinking water bottles are thrown away in Greece. Almost one-fifth of the entire waste produced by this country is plastic, and yet just 1% of it is recycled.
As a result Greece has been punished repeatedly by the European Union. Local governments are obligated by law to create the infrastructure for recycling and especially for plastic materials and packages. But we shouldn't depend on the local authorities, we should act and start recycling now!
Our effort begun last summer and it has been pursued by locals in Syros throughout the winter. Huge amounts of plastic were collected at the terrace roof of Boehme del Mar during the last few months and Mystic Blue has undertaken the task of moving them to Athens and arranging for their recycling.
